What we stand for
The issues we raise for every farmer, every field
Bharatiya Kisan Union Dhan Singh Kotwal works to raise issues that directly affect farmers, agricultural workers and rural communities. Through collective representation, dialogue and democratic action, the organization seeks attention to problems affecting agricultural livelihoods, basic rural services and the rights and welfare of farming communities.
These are the demands at the centre of our movement—drawn from what farmers across the country tell us they need most. Every issue below is one we take to the government, to the courts, and to the streets.
Legal guarantee on MSP
We support a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Price (MSP) to ensure that farmers receive fair, stable, and remunerative prices for their crops. A legally protected MSP can provide greater income security, reduce the risk of distress sales, and help farmers plan their agricultural activities with greater confidence. We believe farmers deserve a fair return for their hard work, investment, and contribution to the nation’s food security.
Electricity and agricultural power
We advocate for reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply for farmers, along with timely agricultural power connections and fair electricity tariffs. We raise concerns related to power availability, excessive charges, faulty connections, transformer issues, and service-related problems that affect farming operations. Our aim is to ensure that farmers have dependable and affordable electricity to support irrigation and agricultural activities without unnecessary difficulties.
Canal water and irrigation rights
We advocate for fair, timely, and adequate access to irrigation water for farmers. We support proper maintenance and timely repair of canals, transparent water distribution, and effective measures to address water shortages and supply-related issues. Reliable irrigation is essential for productive farming, and we believe farmers should receive their rightful share of water without unnecessary delays or difficulties.
Sugarcane SAP and pending dues
We advocate for timely and transparent payment of sugarcane dues to ensure farmers receive the full amount legally owed to them without unnecessary delays. We support effective measures for the timely settlement of pending payments, transparent implementation of the State Advised Price (SAP), and stronger accountability in the sugar industry. Farmers should receive fair and timely returns for their produce so they can meet their agricultural expenses and maintain financial stability.
Farm loan waiver and debt relief
We advocate for meaningful debt relief and supportive measures for farmers facing financial hardship due to agricultural loans and rising farming costs. We support appropriate loan-waiver policies, accessible financial assistance, and practical solutions to reduce the burden of unsustainable agricultural debt. Our aim is to help farmers overcome financial pressure and continue farming with greater stability, dignity, and confidence.
Land rights
We stand for the protection of farmers’ lawful land rights, ownership, and interests. We advocate for fair, transparent, and accountable processes in matters involving agricultural land, acquisition, compensation, records, and ownership disputes. Farmers should have access to proper information, legal safeguards, and fair treatment whenever decisions concerning their land are made.
Farmer social security
We advocate for stronger social-security measures and greater financial protection for farmers and rural communities. We support accessible welfare schemes, pension and insurance coverage, support for farming families, and assistance during financial or agricultural difficulties. Our aim is to promote a secure and dignified life for farmers and their families while strengthening the social and economic well-being of rural communities.
Rural problems and basic needs
We raise concerns related to electricity, waterlogging, fertilizer availability, stray animals, roads, drainage, sanitation, and other basic rural challenges that directly affect farmers and village communities. We advocate for timely solutions, better rural infrastructure, and effective coordination with the concerned authorities to address these issues. Our aim is to help create better, safer, and more sustainable living and farming conditions for rural communities.
