About BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal
Bharatiya Kisan Union Dhan Singh Kotwal (BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal) is a farmer-focused organization dedicated to strengthening farmer unity, protecting the interests of rural communities, and providing farmers with an organized platform to raise their concerns and aspirations.
The organization draws inspiration from the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar, a prominent figure associated with the 1857 uprising in Meerut. Dhan Singh Gurjar served as the Kotwal of Meerut and became associated with the uprising of 1857. Historical accounts state that he joined the revolutionary movement and played a significant role in mobilizing people in Meerut. Government publications note that he helped free more than 800 prisoners during the uprising and was subsequently executed by the British authorities on July 4, 1857.
The organization focuses on issues that directly affect the lives and livelihoods of farmers and rural communities, including fair agricultural prices, electricity, irrigation, sugarcane payments, agricultural debt, land rights and farmer social security. Foundation of BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal
On November 27, 2025, inspired by the life, courage and legacy of Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar, the organization was formally announced at his birthplace on the occasion of his birth anniversary. During the occasion, Pawan Singh Gurjar was chosen as the President of the organization. Today, Bharatiya Kisan Union Dhan Singh Kotwal (BKU Dhan Singh Kotwal) is regarded as one of the prominent organizations representing the Gujjar community, with a focus on farmer welfare, social unity and the interests of rural communities.

Our mission is to strengthen the unity and representation of farmers and to create an organized platform through which farmers can raise issues concerning their livelihoods, rights, welfare, and future.

Inspired by Amar Shaheed Kotwal Dhan Singh Gurjar
The organization takes its name and inspiration from Dhan Singh Gurjar, also known as Dhunna Singh, who served as the Kotwal of Meerut during the period of the 1857 uprising. Historical sources identify him as an important figure in the events surrounding the Meerut uprising.
According to the Government of India’s New India Samachar, Dhan Singh Gurjar was born in Panchali village in Meerut and became a key figure in the 1857 freedom struggle. The publication records that he joined the revolution and helped free more than 800 prisoners from the Meerut jail. It also records that he was sentenced to death and hanged on July 4, 1857.
His legacy of courage, leadership, sacrifice, and resistance continues to inspire the organization and its commitment to collective action and public service.
